Downgrading -- slightly -- in tough times


As travel budgets tighten, flying in premium economy sections on international carriers may be favored over business class. But watch out: Fares can range from about one third more to five times more than economy. Experts say premium economy is worth it if it’s priced a bit higher than economy, but a good deal less than business class. Compared with regular economy, premium may offer about five to seven extra inches of legroom, wider seats, more recline, adjustable headrests, leg rests and/or lumbar support, larger personal TV screens, laptop power ports and premium food service.
