LaGuardia is closest and a cab ride is quick. Newark also has buses that will take you to Penn Station or Port Authority in Manhattan - the ride is about $20.

For an affordable hotel room, try Radio City Apartments. (www.radiocityapartments.com) All rooms are set up like apartments, with a kitchenette. This is great if you're trying to save money since you can eat some meals in your room. Rooms start at $165 a night. You might also consider staying in Queens in Long Island City, where rooms can be had for less than $200 a night. You won't be in the heart of Manhattan, but you'll be a quick subway ride away. There's a new Holiday Inn in Park Slope, Brooklyn, that offers rooms starting at $160 a night. Park Slope is a great neighborhood to stay in and is about 15 minutes from downtown Manhattan or about 40 minutes to midtown.
