US Airways matches United’s fee for checking a second bag

Many passengers who check more than one bag on US Airways will soon have to ante up a $25 fee. The new US Airways policy matches one recently introduced by United Airlines. Like United, US Airways will grant some exemptions from the second-checked-bag fee: It will not apply to Dividend Miles Preferred members (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Chairman’s Preferred), to persons confirmed in first class or Envoy Class at the time of check-in; or to Star Alliance Silver and Gold status members. Also exempt from the fee will be active military personnel, as long as they are in uniform and have an ID; unaccompanied minors; and persons checking “assistive devices.” The new US Airways fee applies to tickets purchased on or after February 26, for travel on or after May 5. The service fee is payable at a kiosk with a credit card, or at the airport counter with a credit card, cash or check.
