US Airways hires new Philadephia managers
Seeks permanent fix to operational problems at PHL
In a tacit admission that its Philadelphia hub still needs some fixing, US Airways has hired two top executives from other carriers to overhaul its operations at the airport. A former Northwest executive, Suzanne Boda, was named US Airways’ senior vp-east coast, international and cargo, based in Philadelphia; and Robert Ciminelli, a longtime American executive who ran its DFW hub and its LaGuardia operations, was named US Airways’ vp-Philadelphia operations. Since its merger with America West in 2005, US Airways has spent more than $20 million to upgrade its PHL hub operations, which have been beset with problems in recent years, from troubles with switching over to a new reservations system to baggage difficulties. US Airways plans further improvements at PHL, including a new ground equipment maintenance building; a redesign of Terminal F with a new baggage claim area; new ticket counters and an inline baggage sorting system.
