Peter and Paul Fortress

Located on an island in the middle of the Neva, opposite the Hermitage, this fortress is where the city was originally founded. It contains a series of museums, great views from the ramparts and the last resting place of the Romanov tsars.

Kunstkamera

If the Hermitage is one of the world’s greatest classical museums, then the Kunstkamera, originally built to house Peter the Great’s personal collection of natural curiosities, is one of the world’s weirdest and most macabre. Not for the faint of heart.
