WHERE TO DINE
UPSCALE
Axe
1009 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-664-9787
Super-hip neighborhood café featuring farmers’-market-fresh greens to accompany scrumptious roast chicken, sizzling Korean seafood pancakes and vegetarian entrées. Everyone is good-looking but friendly, just like the food.
Hal’s Bar and Grill
1349 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-396-3105
A luxe turkey burger, extra-crisp fries, chipotle-chile tartar sauce, an icy martini and the most swinging bar scene on the Westside, especially during the live jazz sessions on Sunday and Monday nights.
Joe’s
1023 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-399-5811
California-French cuisine presented in a charming, warm dining room and on a lovely outdoor patio. Joe never disappoints.
Shima
1432 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-314-0882
Intimate, secluded and pricey, boasting spectacular sushi and to-die-for homemade tofu in a lovely Zen setting.
MODERATE
Abbot’s Pizza Company
1407 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-396-7334
You’ll feel noble scarfing down a crisp-crust salad pizza, even while listening to the groans of stationary-bike riders at Circuit Works across the street.
Jin Patisserie
1202 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-399-8801
Tranquil garden seating enhances a light quiche lunch or tea with mousse cake, or a side of handcrafted chocolates you can barely pronounce but know you like, including Earl Gray Feuilletine and Mango Kalamansi.
Stroh’s Gourmet
1239 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
310-450-5119
Pastrami, sauerkraut, Dijon and provolone on rye vs. turkey, avocado and brie on multigrain. A tough choice, especially when paired with Tyrell’s hand-fried potato chips and Rieme sparkling lemonade. Grab your food to go, or enjoy at the tables outside this easygoing sandwich shop and gourmet market.

A good selection of restaurants... but for some excellent "cheap eats," the Tortilla Grill (not a chain although the title sounds like it) offers some of the best tacos I've ever had.
