BA says it is talking with Continental, American
When Continental announced last month that its board had decided not to pursue a merger with United Airlines, the airline also said that it was reviewing its membership in the SkyTeam global alliance -- perhaps out of concern that its presence in the group would be diminished by the planned merger of SkyTeam members Delta and Northwest. A terse press release from British Airways last week – perhaps the shortest press release in BA’s history – suggests that Continental might be looking for a new home in the Oneworld alliance, whose principal members are BA and American. “British Airways is exploring opportunities for cooperation with American Airlines and Continental Airlines,” the announcement said. “Further details will be announced when appropriate.”
