Time Savers

Keep watches and cufflinks in tip-top shape on the road (and save yourself precious time).

  • Take it off. Unless you’re traveling on a private jet, get ready in advance to zip right through security. Put your watch and cufflinks in a secure place in your bag, not in a coat pocket or plastic bin. Objects can fall out in the X-ray machine, and retrieving them can be a real waste of time.

  • Watch out. Preset your dual time zone watch to the local time at your destination before leaving for the airport. That way, you’ll be able to mentally adjust your personal schedule more effectively.

  • Travel off the cuff. If you don’t have a good place to stow your cufflinks in your packed bags, fasten them into the buttonholes of the shirt you plan to wear when you reach your destination.

  • Avert disaster. If you have a minor non-mechanical problem with a watch, most airport watch shops will gladly replace a band, a battery or a broken or lost pin for a few dollars.

  • Keep track. Know exactly where your watch, keys and cufflinks are in your hotel room by investing in a chic travel tray that folds flat in your bag, $148, at coach.com.
