History: Delta began in 1924 as Huff Daland Duster, a crop dusting entity based in Monroe, LA that operated in the US during the summer and then dusted crops in Peru in the winter. In 1927, the crop dusting subsidiary of Huff Daland Manufacturing was sold to a Monroe businessman C.E Woolman who renamed the company Delta Air and began the first passenger service connecting Dallas, TX and Jackson, MS with Shreveport and Monroe, LA. Delta moved its offices from Monroe to Atlanta in 1941 and grew over the years via mergers with Chicago & Southern Airlines (1953), Northeast Airlines (1972) and Western Airlines (1987) which gave the airline its national presence we know today. International expansion came in 1991 when Delta acquired key assets of bankrupt Pan American, including its European routes and Northeast shuttle operation. Struggling through the worst down-turn in commercial aviation history, Delta filed for bankruptcy in September 2005.

What’s new?
SkyMiles members can redeem SkyChoice reward seats on a one-way basis when the lower mileage SkySaver seats are not available for full round-trip. This is key as SkySaver seats are as rare as peals these days it seems.
Lots more international service. When Delta filed for bankruptcy in 2005, it dramatically cut back it’s money losing domestic network in favor of growing the more profitable long-haul international service.
Delta will soon launch a world-wide carbon offset program to allow customers the option of making a contribution to the Conservation Fund that will help offset the carbon emissions associated with air travel. Donations will be $5.50 for a domestic round-trip and $11.00 for an international round-trip and will be used by the fund to plant trees in the US and abroad.

Some Crown Room Club locations offer putting greens at select locations to help keep your game sharp while you are on the road. The unique feature is in conjunction with the PGA Tour, of which Delta is the official airline.
