Will a domestic all-business airline fly?
Feb 8 2008, 2:05 PM EST A charter airline called Primaris announced plans to begin coast-to-coast scheduled service with all-business-class seating (see this week’s story). Currently, all-business-class airlines only operate across the Atlantic, and one (MaxJet) recently went out of business. Do you think an all-business airline can thrive in the domestic transcontinental market? Or would the more frequent service and loyalty programs of the major carriers doom such a product? Post your comments here. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Will a domestic all-business airline fly?
Feb 8 2008, 7:00 PM EST This will probably fail since what business travelers want besides business class accomidations is frequent service - and these kind of carriers cannot offer that. Look at the JFK-London carriers offering this service like EOS. They have trouble filling their planes and staying solvent. I don't expect US domestic cross-country carriers to do any better. Frequency of service is the missing variable on these offerings, one one (or maybe two flights a day) between JFK and LAX is not going to cut it. I would bet on the main-line carriers who are alraeady improving their offerings (Contintental - Video on Demand Direct TV for most of their planes, Jet Blue already offering that, Delta offering its own Dish TV service) to continue to hold most of the market. Of more interest, how is Virgin-Atlantic's limted pay as you go premium service working out? Is that limited service (as in cities) airline succeding? Do you find this valuable? |

Feb 11 2008, 3:32 AM EST Yes it will do well, as I feel that there call for a Charter Airline doing coast to coast. Just look at the English Charter Airlines they sell out there J class on most flights and all across the pond. Do you find this valuable? |

Feb 22 2008, 2:30 PM EST Siince the domestic airlines offer dismal business class service, I would hope this service can make a go of it. I will certainly try them on my next trip to the West Coast, if they're available. Do you find this valuable? |
