Are you a Registered Traveler yet?
Mar 21 2008, 1:27 PM EDT
With the opening of expedited security lanes at Washington D.C.’s Dulles and National airports last week, the long-delayed Registered Traveler program is now up and running in 18 U.S. airports (see this week’s story), with more than 118,000 participants. Our question this week: Have you joined the RT program yet, and if so, do you think it’s worth the $100 annual cost? Does it really get you through security faster? If you haven’t joined, what’s holding you back? Post your comments here. Do you find this valuable?

I've been part of the program for about 5 months. I fly out of both San Francisco and San Jose regularly. I find that going to the head of the security line saves lots of time. I have a hip implant that forces me to enjoy the TSA's "Premium" service (a full search, every time). Being able to go ahead of the queue makes that a bit less onerous. Is it worth the US$124..... Absolutely. Do you find this valuable?

No. I will try anything to speed up the process. How do I register?

I am a member of about two months and am based in Denver. I fly out weekly and find it saves me an incredible amount of time in the screening process. I just wish more airports would quickly adopt the program. My current contract has me flying in to LAX weekly and they haven't implemented yet. And going through security in the old terminals at LAX is pure torture it is so painfully slow and inefficient. I will glady renew my membership each year and hope that all airports adopt the program sooner, rather than later. Do you find this valuable?

Yes, I joined about 9 months ago. I joined because I was flying to San Jose/San Francisco frequently. I'm not sure the cost is worth it yet given the still limited number of airports participating. I haven't decided whether or not to renew yet, though it has reduced security clearance for me on the few occasions I'm flying through an airport that participates. Do you find this valuable?

Absolutely. I joined the program when it first started in Orlando. In fact I flew to Orlando just to join the program. And, I made my daughter join the moment I received an email that Clear was to have lanes at DCA (she lives in Arlington). I'll be even happier when O'Hare comes on line (if ever). I fly 200,000+ miles each year domestically. Live in Chicago and work in CA. I need something like Clear otherwise TSA would be arresting me every other week for insolent behavior. I find security to be offensive. Clear at least makes it palatable. I'd pay double just to keep sane. Do you find this valuable?
