Do you believe the FAA keeps you safe when you fly?
Apr 4 2008, 1:31 PM EDT FAA aircraft inspectors charged that the agency hasn’t enforced its own inspection requirements, and air traffic controllers apparently faced retribution from superiors for reporting safety-related problems (see this week’s story). Our question for readers: How confident are you in the FAA’s ability to keep the flying experience safe for travelers? What are your biggest safety-related concerns about air travel? Post your comments here. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Do you believe the FAA keeps you safe when you fly?
Apr 7 2008, 6:06 PM EDT The only one keeping you safe when you fly is the Pilot in Command ,so insist on the proffessional ,well paid union pilots. Be smart and choose your Pilot like you would choose your Doctor. All pilot are not equal you get what you pay for. Except for Sothwest low cost carriers have low cost pilots. It's worth the money to fly with the best at CO AA Delta NWA United and US Air. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Do you believe the FAA keeps you safe when you fly?
Apr 7 2008, 6:09 PM EDT No, I don't believe the FAA is doing a good job of keeping us safe. Thinking that you can rely on any government bureauocracy to do the right thing is crazy. They protect themselves and their jobs first. They end up in bed with airlines and the aircraft manufacturers. The same is true of relying on the FDA to safeguard us from the drug companies. The biggest danger is the poor level of education and low moral standards. We need to raise both so it becomes the usual to know what is the right thing and to do it. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Do you believe the FAA keeps you safe when you fly?
May 2 2008, 11:34 AM EDT I think the FAA does a lot better job keeping us safe than the TSA does. At least the FAA does more that placebo inspections. The biggest problem the FAA has now is getting Congress to fund the upgrades to the Air Traffic Control System. User fees are not the answer. Europe went that way and look at the mess over there. You can't expect the operator of a single engine Cessna to pay the same as the operator of a 777. Per passenger fees don't work well either. Just like the interstate highway system, the air traffic control system is a national asset and users should not be charged. Somehow Congress and the DOT have forgotten some of this and allowed some of the states to charge tolls on interstate highways. Should never have happened. Do you find this valuable? |
