What do you think of a United-US Airways merger?
May 2 2008, 2:23 PM EDT
After being rejected by Continental, United immediately picked up the pace of merger talks with US Airways, and a combination of those two airlines is now said to be in the works – in the face of opposition from United’s pilots (see this week’s story). What do you think of a United-US Airways combination? Which airline’s passengers do you think have the most to gain (or lose) from such a merger? Post your comments here.

A combination of UAL and US Air would be a merger only in the sense that the Titanic merged with an iceberg. Considering the respective weak balance sheets, poor employee morale, union problems and UAL's incompetent management, it would be doomed in a few years to the same sad fate as Pan Am; an eventual sell off of assets to the highest bidder.

The only reason UAL's still looking for a merger is the Sr. Management of UAL"S dreams of a payout if it goes through. UAL announced this week that they want to revise their credit terms with their banks. It seems that if they don't merge UAL could very well join Aloha, ATA, and all the other airlines that have ceased operations. They are the only major airline in The US that doesn't have on order or to be delivered new airplanes. Continental was smart in pulling out of a merger dela with UAL. UAL an US AIR would be the blind leading the blind.
