Should American, BA get antitrust immunity?
Aug 15 2008, 2:36 PM EDT
American, British Airways and Iberia want antitrust approval for a new commercial partnership that would let AA/BA control a majority of the capacity into London Heathrow from some key U.S. gateways, including JFK, Boston, O’Hare, Miami and DFW (see this week’s story). Do you think American and BA should win approval for this venture? Would it be good or bad for travelers? Post your comments here. 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

With their history of trying to eliminate competition, fee people to death and shut out other airlines, why on earth would we allow them ANY ability to continue their predatory ways. NO WAY this should be allowed. 1  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

NO IS CORRECT- create more competition and lower fares and improved services with more airline choices

Government should either fully regulate the airline industry or get out of the airline industry - their half baked attempt at regulation is contributing significantly to the current woes. I would prefer the government get out of the business of business. The second major problem is unions - with the most senior pilots making an outrageous $500k+ (in pay and benefits) - they are driving next generation buses and should be paid a reasonable salary for a full time job (if they can stay awake and stay sober.) Unions will take airlines the same place they took Detroit's auto industry - oops, I guess they already have... They certainly are not qualified to run an airline or call for the replacement of United's CEO.
