liquids that don't make it through security

What happens to the liquids that don't make it through Security at the airport? For example: I saw some passengers that had to give up some unopened bottles of wine that were in their carry ons - does TSA really throw those out or do they keep them for themselves? Also, any suggestions on how to pack fragile items like wine in your checked in baggage (seems like it would probably break and you would have wine all over your clothes)? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Although some airports did plan to give some of the surrendered unopened items (bottles of shampoo, toothpaste and others) to homeless shelters, apparently
safety reasons have prevented it: most items were contaminated by other trash and had to be discarded. On the other hand workers are forbidden to keep confiscated goods.

There are inflatable and cushioned containers which may be helpful when transporting fragile goods.

I've seen TSA agents simply trash stuff in a bin...the oddest thing is, why would you throw away something that could potentially be life threatening in something as simple as a trash container...AND...on top of that, dispose of it an open area where travelers are at like security clearance! I've packed wine many times - lots of bubble wrap then tied into at least 2 layers of plastic bags - although none have broken I'm sure it's because I've wrapped them well enough so the damage would be minimal

I have packed booze....but very carefully using bubble wrap. Early on I made the mistake of packing mustard for a camping trip only to have it explode and douse all of my clothing. Once burned was enough. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
