Registering travel plans in advance
Jun 25 2007, 9:51 AM EDT
The Department of Homeland Security’s latest plan to keep us safe would require U.S.-bound foreign travelers to register their travel plans 48 hours in advance, if they are coming from a country whose residents are not required to obtain a U.S. visa. What effect do you think this will have on international business travel to the U.S.? How would you react if foreign governments retaliate by imposing a similar rule on U.S. travelers? Post your comments here. (Note: if you want to be quoted by name, add your name to your comments.) 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I doubt it will provide any benefit to anyone. Just a lot more hassle for the business and vacation traveler from overseas. International travel for business is already difficult enough whether you are a US Citizen or from somewhere else. This will likely just reduce business travel. The bad guy can dummy up and file any paperwork they want that doesn't mean it is worth anything once he lands. Do you find this valuable?

I would not care for this being done to me, we need to decide if we want vistors to this country, if the decision is to isolate our selves further, this is the way to do it. It is a stupid idea!!

This is just the latest in dumb federal regulations that international travelers bristle at when attempting to travel to the US. It is a reflection of the mind set of the Bush administration and most likely put into place by people who never left the US. My partner is in the travel business in SF and the level of international visitors is way down impacting the local economy because of these new restrictions. The US is acting like a third world paranoid country when it comes to internationals. In some cases visiting a third world country is much easier.

Isn't DHS spending billions every year to identify and track possible terrorists? This useless and easily falsified info now requested will only overwhelm analysts so the actual bad guys will get in and be lost in the crowd just like the 19 did in 2001.
These people in government don't have a clue, but what can we expect from political, not professional, appointees.

I have holidayed in the US for the last 20yrs and have enjoyed every minute. It is, however, becoming more and more of a hassle getting into the country. This latest is just plain madness. I normally just hire a car and go where I feel like going. How am I supposed to give my plans in advance?.. I do not know, probably by not going and who does that hurt. Only local business.
