Northwest's flight cancellations
Jul 2 2007, 9:53 AM EDT Northwest is struggling to return its flight operations to normal after massive cancellations last week. Were you affected, and if so, did you have trouble getting rebooked? Has the situation caused you to lose confidence in booking Northwest? If it did, how might you change your travel plans in the future? Post your comments here. RE: Northwest's flight cancellations
Jul 2 2007, 2:01 PM EDT Finished early at client. Tried to rebook. ABSOLUTELY no open seats! Had to drive home. Couldn't even find open seats on other airlines. To say it was frustrating would be kind. Even worse, was the attitude of the people in the phone bank. They couldn't have cared less whether I could get home. No attitude of flexibility or sympathy! 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Northwest's flight cancellations
Jul 3 2007, 3:50 AM EDT Thank god I flew earlier in month and avoided THIS fiasco . Have booked next 2 flites on Delta--still get the miles with NWA but hopefully avoid the hassles. Just hope I can USE the miles--unable to book biz class or min miles Europe flite 4 months out so when? Flying NWA coach is the worst but with Elite status I feel stuck. They do have the best FF program for EARNING miles. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Northwest's flight cancellations
Jul 5 2007, 9:54 AM EDT As I understand it, NWA had over 200 flights it had to cancel for the week in question, as they had a number of weather related delays and cancellations the prior 2 weeks and, per FAA regulations, pilots are limited to 100 hours a month, and per NWA contract 90 hours. They simply ran out of hours and had no extra standby pilots on the payroll. This week they have reportedly called back over 400 furloughed pilots, while at the same time down sizing its flight schedule. Albeit, I saw a report that over 200 furloughed pilots are not ready to come back, at this time. NWA, is out of bankruptcy and ready to grow and compete with the low cost carriers and is a major player on the Asian routes. It has also purchased a small airline, while in Bankruptcy and started up a new one, called "Compass" (don't understand that too much...) . Now with employee profit sharing and other incentives, the 200 flight cancellation was probably "THE" low point for NWA and it will be upwards and onward from here with clear skys ahead. I flew NWA to Bangkok, and back, in June, with no problems (however, every seat was taken and all the flights too--need to add a lot more capacity) and their Worldperk miles never expire. 0 out of 1 found this valuable.
