Southwest's new boarding procedure
Sep 23 2007, 8:43 PM EDT Southwest’s new policy will still allow open seating, but makes passengers line up in order at the gate (see this week's news story above). Carriers with assigned seats board planes back-to-front, or window seat-middle seat-aisle seat. Sep 25 2007, 3:00 PM EDT I will not fly Southwest until they begin assigning seats. The best seats should go not to the people who get to the airport the earliest (reminds me of general seating for a sold-out rock concert), but to those who buy their tickets first. The order of boarding doesn't matter. For most airplanes back to front seems to work best, but that depends on the arrangement of seats and the location of doors. Do you find this valuable? |

Sep 27 2007, 12:45 AM EDT The best way to board people is to have those folks carrying items with them to board first from windows out and from the back of the plane forward. Then board everyone else. It takes longer to stow things and get settled for those with bundles with them. Start at the window seats going toward the aile seats. Start boarding as soon as the plane has been serviced. The earlier one boards the sooner the plane will be ready to depart. Even in a 30 seater waiting until five minutes before departure time gives people inadequate time to board and guarantees a late departure. Do you find this valuable? |
