Executive Travel Writers Guidelines

Executive Travel is published six times a year by American Express Publishing. Our 125,000 readers are very, very frequent business travelers. The magazine’s tagline, “Savor the journey,” reflects our notion that business travel can be an extraordinary lifestyle for those who are well informed. The magazine is not available on the newsstand.

Our goal is to have the magazine reflect the complete lifestyle of the reader—which is much broader than travel. So, we also place a strong emphasis on management and leisure topics. The magazine is 95 percent freelance-written, and when we look for a freelancer for a story, we look for someone with a strong background in the subject area. Writers with business/financial writing experience are especially well suited for the magazine. A strong background covering the airlines and hotel industries is also a plus.

Most story ideas are generated by staff, and ideas submitted by query are rarely used. So, sending a brief message about your relevant experience and a few clips is a great way to introduce yourself to us. Of special note: It is our policy for destination stories to use local writers only.
